Overview

This ticket allows entry to Segovia Cathedral, the last Gothic cathedral built in Spain, located on Plaza Mayor where Isabella I was proclaimed Queen of Castile. The visit includes access through the north transept. Inside, the cathedral is lit by 16th-century Flemish stained-glass windows and features a spacious, simple interior with a large 15th-century Gothic choir in the center. Opposite the choir is the high altar, which has an 18th-century altarpiece by Sabatini. The cathedral contains over 20 chapels along its walls and apse. One notable chapel is the Capilla de San Cosme y San Damian, the third on the right from the entrance, which holds a 17th-century wooden lamentation group by Baroque sculptor Gregorio Fernández. The Blessed Sacrament Chapel, designed by Churriguera, includes stained glass, carved choir stalls, and 16th- and 17th-century paintings such as a reredos by Juan de Juni depicting Christ’s deposition from the cross. From the southern transept, a door leads to the late-Gothic cloister, older than the cathedral itself, relocated from the old cathedral and designed by architect Juan Guas. Beneath the cloister pavement are the tombs of Juan and Rodrigo Gil de Hontañón, prominent figures in late Gothic architecture. Adjacent to the cloister is a small religious art museum housed partly in the chapter house, featuring a 17th-century Mudéjar-style ceiling, jewelry, paintings, and rare antique manuscripts. The ticket also includes free access to the Episcopal Palace of Segovia. The total visit takes about one to two hours.
