by Selkie Snorkels Sitka
Sitka Sound offers diverse marine life including octopus, rockfish, sea stars, anemones, and abalone. This snorkeling tour at Magic Island lasts about three hours and uses semi-dry suits and full snorkel gear for underwater exploration. The operator provides private transportation to the site. Tea and coffee are included. Participants should have snorkeling experience and be strong swimmers. Walking about a quarter mile on a rocky shore is required to reach the snorkeling area.
Gear Setup and Water Entry
The equipment provided consists of a 7mm wetsuit, dive hood, flippers, 7mm dive gloves, 7mm dive booties, and a mask with snorkel. Guides help all participants to correctly wear the suits. Once everyone is ready, the group boards the Snorkelmobile to reach one of two dive locations. Entry at these sites requires walking over rocky terrain into the water, but both offer fairly simple walk-in access. Guides accompany swimmers, carrying a foam surfboard to support anyone needing a break or assistance, and they identify marine life. After spending 40 to 60 minutes in the water, the group returns to shore to dry off. Afterwards, guests are taken downtown or helped to ensure they return on time for cruise departures if needed.
