It begins with a visit to Raufarhólshellir, one of Iceland's longest lava tunnels located approximately 45 minutes from Reykjavík. Participants walk through the tunnel to observe colorful rock formations and volcanic structures formed thousands of years ago. After exploring the lava cave, the tour continues to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At Þingvellir, participants snorkel in the Silfra Fissure, a crack between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. The snorkeling is guided by a certified divemaster and includes all necessary gear. The water is exceptionally clear, allowing snorkelers to float between the two continental plates while viewing underwater rock formations. After snorkeling, hot chocolate and cookies are provided. The guide takes underwater photos, which are shared with participants. Optional transfers for pickup and dropoff from Reykjavík are available. Lunch is not included but can be brought or purchased during breaks. Participants should bring warm base layers, a towel, a change of clothes, and thick socks for comfort during and after the activities. The minimum age is 12 years, and those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult booked on the same tour. Guests must meet weight and height requirements and be able to swim. Additional safety and medical information is provided before the tour.
Lava Tunnel and Silfra Snorkeling
This tour combines two classic experiences: exploring the Lava Tunnel and snorkeling the Silfra Fissure. It begins at the Lava Tunnel where a guide leads through an underground space formed by volcanic eruptions, showing mineral deposits and rock formations while explaining Iceland's geology. Afterwards, the tour continues to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where participants snorkel between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates in glacial meltwater with visibility of 100 - 150 meters. Guests may join at each site or use the Reykjavík Transfer option, which includes pick-up, transport, and drop-off.
