Overview

The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam holds the Netherlands' largest collection of modern and contemporary art and design. Visitors can access both the renovated historic building and the modern wing with their admission ticket, exploring the museum at their own pace. The collection includes important works by artists such as Marc Chagall, Willem de Kooning, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, and many influential 20th-century Dutch artists. The museum presents key art movements like the Amsterdam School and the Bauhaus alongside works from newer modern and contemporary artists. Included in the ticket is access to temporary exhibitions, such as the Erwin Olaf retrospective titled Freedom, which runs through April 6, 2026. This exhibition highlights Olaf’s diverse creative output, including well-known artworks, videos, sculptures, commercial photography, and materials from his personal archive. Audio guides in Dutch and English are provided to support the visit. The typical visit lasts between one hour and an hour and a half. Food, drinks, hotel pickup, and live guided tours are not included.
