This small-group boat tour in Kailua-Kona lasts about 2 to 3 hours and offers a chance to snorkel with manta rays at sunset. The operator limits the number of guests in the water to no more than 10, providing a quieter and more focused experience compared to larger groups of 25 to 50 people. Check-in takes place directly at the in-water boat slip G-8 for quick boarding. After a safety briefing, the boat rides 10 to 15 minutes to the snorkeling site. At the site, guests spend around 40 to 45 minutes in the water guided by experienced swim leaders. The manta rays, which have wingspans up to 16 feet and weigh as much as 1,600 pounds, feed on plankton attracted by high-intensity LED lights placed underwater. The animals are safe to be near as they have no teeth, stingers, or barbs. Reboarding the boat is easy using a wide ladder, and the return offers comfortable seating. The tour travels to a prime manta ray snorkel site known as Garden Eel Cove or Manta Heaven. Guests spend about three hours total on this stop, including the boat ride and snorkeling time. The site features high-intensity LED light boards placed underwater to attract plankton, which in turn draws the manta rays. These rays can have wingspans up to 16 feet and weigh as much as 1,600 pounds. They feed by filtering plankton and are safe to swim near as they have no teeth, stingers, or barbs.
