Overview

This small-group walking tour lasts three and a half hours and covers approximately four kilometers through central Sydney. The tour begins at Customs House, where the guide provides an overview of Sydney’s British colonisation and its impact on the First Nations people. Participants learn about Aboriginal place names and explore the precinct behind Customs House. The route continues past The Mint, part of the historic "Rum Hospital" complex that includes NSW Parliament and Sydney Hospital. The group stops outside Hyde Park Barracks for a five-minute explanation of its history and architecture; entry is not included. Next, the tour briefly enters the Royal Botanic Garden to view the site of the former Garden Palace and the Governor Phillip Fountain. A short visit to the Queen Victoria Building allows guests to see the interior and use restrooms if needed. In Hyde Park, the group pauses to view St. Mary’s Cathedral from about fifty meters away without entering. The walk proceeds to Martin Place and Pitt Street, where the guide discusses the General Post Office’s construction and the ANZAC Cenotaph, including Australia’s role in World War I. The tour then spends about thirty minutes exploring parts of The Rocks district, including Nurses Walk, Jack Mundey Place, and lower George Street. The final stop is Campbell’s Cove, offering views of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge; the guide shares the story of the Opera House’s construction but there is no entry to the building or the bridge. The tour concludes with a beer at a nearby brewery overlooking these landmarks. Included in the tour are group photos, snacks, a map with recommendations, and one alcoholic drink. The walk requires comfortable walking for four kilometers over three hours and is not recommended for children under twelve or those unable to walk this distance.
