Overview

The Tasmanian Devil After Dark Feeding Tour at Cradle Mountain takes place at Devils@Cradle, located within Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park in Australia. Visitors may arrive before the tour begins to explore the sanctuary on their own. The 75-minute tour starts on the main viewing deck with a short introduction to the three species housed at the sanctuary. The majority of the tour consists of a guided walk through the sanctuary after dark. During this time, the guide enters the animal enclosures to feed Tasmanian devils and quolls, which are more active at night. The feeding usually triggers competition among these carnivores, providing an opportunity to observe their social interactions and feeding behavior. Environmentally sensitive lighting is used to reduce disturbance. The guide explains the animals’ biology, behavior, threats, and conservation efforts while answering questions. The tour involves some walking over uneven ground but can be wheelchair accessible if arranged in advance. It operates in all weather conditions, and photography is allowed. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Free onsite parking is available, but transportation to and from the sanctuary and hotel pickup are not provided.
