This two-hour vintage bus tour covers the Three Cities area of Malta: Vittoriosa, Cospicua, and Senglea. The ride begins with a drive through Cospicua, known since Neolithic times and formerly called Bormla. You will see the fortification walls built by the Knights of Malta starting in 1638, which took 70 years to complete. Next, the tour visits Vittoriosa, a city with a long history of maritime, commercial, and military importance due to its position in the Grand Harbour. Before Valletta was Malta’s capital, control of Vittoriosa was crucial for any military power wanting to rule the islands. The final city, Senglea, is connected to Cospicua by a land bridge constructed during the Knights of St. John period, forming a peninsula. Senglea was historically used as a hunting ground by the Knights. Throughout the tour, the driver provides detailed English commentary on the history of Valletta and the Three Cities, including their roles in the Great Sieges of 1565 and 1942. The tour is conducted on one of the first two wooden-bodied buses built in 1921 by the Cottonera Motor Bus Company, which were handmade by local carpenters and mechanics to quickly expand the fleet between Cottonera and Valletta.
