Overview

This full-day train experience through the Alps follows the Royal Baroque Route starting from Nice. The tour begins at Gare de Nice Ville at 7:55 a.m., where participants meet in front of the main entrance near the Boulangerie Paul terrace. The group boards a train that travels for about one hour and fifteen minutes uphill through three valleys in the southern Alps, passing viaducts, tunnels, and canyons. After the train ride, a shuttle bus transports guests along scenic canyon roads to the first stop, the medieval village of Saorge. Saorge is known for its castle, cathedral, and panoramic views of the Alps. Visitors can choose to walk uphill about 150 meters to visit the Monastery or take a shorter downhill hike. The village reflects a history of border conflicts and Italian heritage. Next, the tour visits a Baroque monument in the Southern French Alps, notable for its peaceful setting, gardens, courtyard, church, and panoramic views. Following this, the shuttle bus takes guests to La Brigue, another medieval village with castle ruins, a cathedral, and strong Italian influences. Lunch is served at a local restaurant in La Brigue. The village includes uphill climbs and stairs to visit monuments, requiring good physical condition. Depending on the day and season, the itinerary may include a visit near the entrance of Mercantour National Park or to other villages such as Tende. There is an option to visit a museum featuring Bronze Age engraving stones. Throughout the day, walking distances range from three to seven kilometers with some uphill sections. The tour lasts approximately ten to twelve hours. Included are a local and professional guide, driver/guide, lunch, fuel surcharges, live commentary on board, and local taxes.
