Overview

This 90-minute workshop takes place in Istanbul’s first traditional Turkish coffee atelier, located between Galataport and Galata Tower. Participants begin by selecting their own coffee beans from a variety of high-quality options. They then grind the beans using a hand-operated mill. Next, the coffee is brewed on hot sand in a traditional copper cezve, allowing observation of the foam as it rises. The guide explains the UNESCO-listed tradition of Turkish coffee preparation, including how to make menengiç coffee, a caffeine-free variety with a nutty flavor. After drinking the coffee, participants take part in a fortune telling ritual by closing their cup and interpreting the symbols formed by the coffee grounds. Fresh Turkish tea and Turkish delight are served during the session. Expert guidance is provided in Turkish, English, or Russian. The workshop runs daily from 8 AM to 11 PM, allowing visitors to proceed at their own pace. Each participant receives a gift set to take home, which includes a handmade coffee pot, a cup set, a package of coffee, and a recipe booklet. The workshop can accommodate individuals, families, couples, and groups of up to 250 people.
