Overview

This unique full-day small group tour lasts approximately eight hours and starts with pickup from major hotels in Papeete. Guests travel in a luxury air-conditioned Mercedes minivan with a professional English-speaking guide. Group size ranges from one to eight people. The first stop is a black sand surf beach on Tahiti's west coast where visitors can watch surfers and fishermen. During whale season, there is a chance to see whales from the shore. The next stop is the Water Gardens of Vaipahi, where guests walk along garden paths beside streams and lily ponds, viewing tropical flowers and the Vaipahi waterfall. This visit lasts about half an hour. Afterward, there is a short walk to Maraa Grotto, a water-filled mountain cave near the roadside, with about 20 minutes to explore. The tour continues to Arahurahu Marae, an ancient Polynesian temple site guarded by two Tikis. The guide explains the life of ancient islanders before the arrival of Christianity during a 40-minute visit. Next, the group travels to Teahupoo village, known for its Olympic surf competition. Visitors have 45 minutes to explore the village. Weather permitting, there is an optional 30-minute boat ride to the reef break to watch the waves. This boat ride is not included in the tour price and is paid directly to the boat captain. The boat ride is unavailable from July 20 to August 5, 2024, for safety reasons. The tour then stops in Paea, a coastal town where guests spend 40 minutes meeting locals and learning about island community life. Lunch follows at a local beachside restaurant in To'ahotu, lasting about 70 minutes. Lunch is not included in the tour price. The tour includes bottled water, hotel pickup and drop-off within Papeete, a professional English-speaking guide, and transport in a luxury air-conditioned Mercedes minivan. Gratuities, lunch, the optional boat ride, and luggage transport (unless arranged in advance) are not included.
