Overview

The tour’s highlight is the visit to the Sistine Chapel to see Michelangelo’s frescoes on the ceiling and The Last Judgement behind the altar. The group then goes directly into St. Peter's Basilica for a guided visit of this famous church, where key artworks and historical facts are explained. The full tour lasts about three and a half hours and is conducted in a small group of up to 20 guests with a licensed Vatican guide. Starting at the Vatican Museums, the tour includes a stop at the Cortile della Pigna, a large courtyard of 300 square metres featuring outdoor artworks, where visitors can spend about 30 minutes. Next, the group visits the Museo Pio Clementino, which houses Greek and Roman sculptures including the Apollo of the Belvedere and the Laocoon group, with another 30 minutes here. The tour continues along the Gallery of Maps, a 120-metre corridor decorated with 40 frescoed maps of Italian regions and important religious events, spending about half an hour. From there, the group enters the Sistine Chapel, where visitors have time to admire Michelangelo’s ceiling and altar frescoes for around 30 minutes. Access from the Sistine Chapel to St. Peter’s Basilica is included but may close without notice due to Vatican events. The visit to the Basilica allows free time to explore the interior on one’s own. The tour includes skip-the-line tickets, radio headphone sets, cold drinks, restroom access, and free Wi-Fi at the meeting point. It offers direct entrance from the Sistine Chapel to St. Peter’s Basilica when available but does not include access to the Basilica Dome. Snacks and tips are not included.
