Overview

This three-hour guided tour in Rome begins with skip-the-line entry to the Vatican Museums. The route covers selected highlights including the Gallery of the Maps, the Gallery of Tapestries, the Gallery of Candelabras, and the Pinecone Courtyard. Visitors will hear explanations about the history of the Vatican state and the significance of artworks by Raphael, Pinturicchio, Perugino, Botticelli, and Michelangelo. Special attention is given to Michelangelo’s frescoes such as "Separation of Light from Darkness," "Creation of the Sun, Moon and Plants," "Separation of Land and Water," and "Creation of Fish and Birds." After approximately two hours in the museums, the tour continues with a fifteen-minute visit to the Sistine Chapel to view Michelangelo’s ceiling frescoes, the Last Judgment, and wall frescoes depicting the lives of Moses and Christ. The final part of the tour is a thirty-minute visit to St. Peter's Basilica, the main basilica of the Catholic Church, where visitors see Michelangelo’s Pieta, his only signed sculpture. Admission to all sites is included, and the tour avoids long entrance lines. Guests receive headsets for clear commentary throughout. Proper dress is required for entry to the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica; shoulders, knees, and neckline must be covered. Hotel pickup and drop-off are not included. The group does not visit Raphael’s Rooms. Gratuities are not included. This tour unlocks the wonders of the Vatican and St. Peter’s Basilica by providing access, information, and a clear route through these important sites.
