Overview
This walking tour lasts about five and a half hours and is led by an official licensed tour guide recognized by the City of Venice in 2013. The tour includes a Vaporetto boat ride through the Venice lagoon to visit the islands of Murano, Burano, and Torcello. On Murano, participants walk along "Glassers Street" to observe the skills of the remaining 20 families who continue the ancient glassmaking tradition dating back to the Roman Empire. The guide explains how masters create handmade crystal glass, a craft once considered a state secret. On Burano, the tour highlights the island’s centuries-old lace-making industry, which local legend ties to fixing fish traps. Visitors may taste local seafood and photograph the island’s distinctive waterfront. The final stop is Torcello, founded by Romans fleeing barbarian invasions, now home to nine residents and considered an early site of Western civilization. The guide accompanies the group throughout, sharing historical and cultural insights across the islands.
