Overview

This nine-hour very small group tour departs from Edinburgh in an air-conditioned Mercedes mini-coach with a local driver/guide providing live commentary. The group size is around 12 passengers. The tour travels north along the Northumberland coastline to Holy Island, also known as Lindisfarne, which was the site of the first Viking invasion of Britain. On Holy Island, there is approximately one hour and fifteen minutes to explore independently. Visitors can walk to Lindisfarne Castle or visit Lindisfarne Priory; entrance fees to these sites are not included. From Holy Island, the tour offers views of Bamburgh Castle and the Farne Islands. After the stop on Holy Island, the tour continues to Alnwick Castle, arriving around lunchtime. Visitors spend a minimum of two and a half hours at the castle, where they can explore the grounds, visit the Downton Abbey exhibition featuring costumes and props, and take part in Harry Potter tours highlighting filming locations. Adjacent to the castle is the Alnwick Garden, which includes several acres of parks, woodland walks, and the Poison Garden, all accessible during the stop. On the return journey, the coach passes through Northumberland National Park and the Borders, with a stop in Coldstream for refreshments and a chance to stretch and view the surrounding landscape. Food, drinks, gratuities, and entrance fees to attractions are not included. The tour operates in most weather conditions and requires appropriate clothing. Children under five are not permitted, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
