Overview

This full-day tour lasts about 12 hours and includes hotel pickup and drop-off from Tamarindo and nearby areas. The day starts with a moderate 2-hour hike on the 3.5-kilometer Las Pailas loop trail inside Rincon de la Vieja Volcano National Park, guided by a bilingual naturalist. During the hike, participants will see volcanic features such as bubbling mud pots, fumaroles, and a small crater, as well as wildlife including over 300 bird species and animals like armadillos, monkeys, and iguanas. After the hike, the group walks a short distance to Oropendola Waterfall, located just outside the park, where swimming in a blue lagoon is possible. Following the outdoor activities, the tour includes a traditional Costa Rican lunch. After lunch, guests are driven to Rio Negro Hot Springs, set in a tropical dry forest area. Here, they can relax in ten naturally heated thermal pools warmed by the volcano and try a volcanic mud bath, where volcanic clay mud is applied to the body. The tour vehicle has air conditioning, and bottled water is provided throughout the day. National park fees, lunch, bottled water, and the driver/guide service are included. Guests should bring their own towel for the hot springs.
