This walking tour of Split lasts between 100 and 110 minutes and is led by Toni Šare, a local historian with a Magister degree in history and owner of DiocleSpot Tours. The tour covers the center of Split, focusing on Diocletian’s Palace and its surroundings, with detailed explanations of the city’s history from ancient Roman times to the present. The tour begins at Split’s Riviera, where the group receives an introduction to the sites ahead, including views of the southern wall of Diocletian’s Palace and graphic models. Next, the group enters the palace through its southern wall into the substructures. The walk continues through the central chamber, the best-preserved archaeological area of the palace’s substructures, where explanations are given despite this being part of a museum. The tour proceeds to the central square of Diocletian’s Palace, one of the city’s main squares, to view well-preserved Roman structures. Toni presents his own 3D reconstructions to illustrate how much of the original decoration and buildings remain. The tour then visits the ancient entrance to Diocletian’s private residence and follows the remains of the emperor’s home. At the eastern entrance to the palace, participants see views of the Cathedral (formerly the emperor’s mausoleum), the Silver Gate, and the original road beneath. The Cathedral is one of the best-preserved Roman buildings still in use today; its history and transformation from mausoleum to Christian cathedral are explained without entering inside. Next, the group stops at the Temple of Jupiter, one of the best-preserved late-Roman temples. Construction anomalies visible from the outside are pointed out, but the temple is not entered.
