Overview

This fully guided bike tour lasts about two hours and covers key capital sites in Washington DC along the National Mall. Participants receive a bicycle adjusted to their height and a mandatory helmet. The guide leads the group on a route that includes stops outside several important landmarks. The tour begins with a stop at the Smithsonian Institution Building, known as The Castle, where the guide shares information about the museum's founder. Next, riders pass between the East and West sides of the National Gallery of Art, observing the small glass pyramids designed by the architect of the Louvre. The group then cycles to the east side of the U.S. Capitol Building for a photo opportunity and commentary on the House and Senate. From there, the tour continues past the Library of Congress and the Supreme Court, both viewed from the outside. Riders also pass the Natural History Museum, with a recommendation to visit the Hall of Gems and the Hope Diamond separately. The route includes a stop at the Washington Monument, where the guide explains the monument's two-tone color. The group views the south side of the White House, with details about renovations made by various presidents. Additional stops include the National World War II Memorial, where the guide describes the symbolism of its features; the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial; and the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial, where Grant is laid to rest. The tour also passes the National Archives Museum, which holds over 13 billion pages of U.S. records, and finishes at the FBI Headquarters with information about its role. The itinerary allows time for cycling between stops and does not include entrance inside any buildings. Travel time is separate from stop durations, and the guide provides local tips throughout the ride.
