by Unlimited Biking formerly Bike and Roll DC
Riders begin this two-hour bike tour by setting off from the meeting point to cycle around Washington DC's Tidal Basin and East Potomac Park. The route passes by cherry trees in bloom during the National Cherry Blossom Festival and includes several stops at important memorials. The first stop is at the Japanese Stone Lantern, where the guide explains the history of the initial cherry tree planting by First Lady Taft and Viscountess Chinda. The tour continues to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, where participants walk their bikes through the site to see The Pagoda, a peace gift located by the Tidal Basin. If time allows, the group pauses at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, where guests dismount to walk through the "Mountain of Despair" to the "Stone of Hope" while the guide watches the bikes. The ride also includes a 20-minute stop at the Jefferson Memorial, providing historical context and views of the cherry trees lining the basin. This cycling tour provides helmets, bicycles, and appropriate equipment for all ages. It is operated during the peak bloom from mid-March to mid-April and is officially affiliated with the National Cherry Blossom Festival. A portion of ticket sales supports the festival's organizing body. Gratuities and hotel transfers are not included.
