The White House

The experience starts at Lafayette Square, opposite the White House. The guide provides statistics and historical details about the neighborhood, highlighting Saint John’s Episcopal Church, known as the “Presidents Church,” and West Jackson Place Street. Visitors have 20 minutes to walk along 1,600 Pennsylvania Avenue, observe the daily environment around the Executive Mansion, and understand the significance of the West Wing command center, international press rooms, and the Old Executive Office Building, which serves as the Vice-Presidency headquarters. The White House interior is not open to the public.

Drive along Pennsylvania Avenue

Travel by bus along Pennsylvania Avenue passing landmarks such as City Hall, Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Old Post Office Building, FBI headquarters, Department of Justice, the Archives, Navy Memorial Plaza, National Gallery of Art, and Embassy of Canada.

U.S. Capitol

At the intersection of First Street and Maryland Avenue NW, step off to walk along the west side of the Capitol façade where presidents take their oath every four years. From this terrace, view the Washington Monument and the National Mall with its Smithsonian Museums. This stop lasts 15 minutes.

Drive through the Smithsonian Museums area heading toward the World War II Memorial.

Washington Monument

This is a drive-by stop where you can view the monument from the National Mall. Photos can be taken during the World War II Memorial stop.

National World War II Memorial

Spend 15 minutes at the plaza designed by Friedrich St. Florian, featuring columns for each state and territory joined by a bronze cord. The memorial honors those who served and fell during World War II.

Located just south of the Reflecting Pool, this memorial depicts 19 stainless steel soldiers walking along the 38th parallel, the border between North and South Korea.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial

At 1964 Independence Avenue SW, this 15-minute stop includes views of the Jefferson Memorial across the Tidal Basin and the nearby FDR Memorial. The memorial honors Martin Luther King Jr.'s nonviolent civil rights legacy and was completed in 2011.

Arlington National Cemetery

After crossing the Potomac River via Memorial Bridge, visitors enter the nation’s main military burial ground. The visit includes a 25-minute walk through the grounds and witnessing the Changing of the Guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The total time inside Arlington National Cemetery is 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Marine Corps War Memorial

For those not walking to the Tomb, this 15-minute stop visits the bronze sculpture of six marines raising the flag on Mount Suribachi during the battle of Iwo Jima, dedicated to all Marines who have died defending the U.S. since 1775.

Located near the Navy annex and Department of Defense, three stainless steel spires honor Air Force members. The memorial overlooks the Pentagon’s western façade damaged during the 9/11 attacks. This stop lasts 15 minutes.
