Overview

This full-day tour begins with an early hotel pickup in San José, followed by a scenic drive through Cartago and the countryside to Turrialba. Upon arrival, participants have a one-hour break to eat a Costa Rican breakfast that includes gallo pinto, eggs, fresh fruit, and coffee. Next, the group travels to Tres Equis for a two-hour session that includes a safety briefing and fitting of white water rafting gear by professional guides. The rafting portion covers approximately 18 miles on the Pacuare River, featuring Class III and IV rapids such as Huacas, Rodeo, Pinball, and Dos Montañas. Rafters navigate through a narrow gorge with tall rock walls and dense rainforest. Along the river, several waterfalls fall into the water, especially in canyon areas, providing opportunities for short breaks and photos. One rapid between steep rock faces is Class IV, presenting a challenging section. Wildlife such as toucans, sloths, monkeys, and butterflies can be seen during the trip. The river passes through lands of the Cabécar indigenous people, which are culturally important but not open to tourism. About halfway through the rafting, there is a stop for a picnic lunch on a quiet riverbank surrounded by nature. After completing the rafting, participants change into dry clothes and return to San José by bus. The tour lasts about 10 hours and includes transportation from hotels in San José, breakfast, lunch, rafting equipment, and guidance from professional instructors. It is suitable for people aged 12 and older.
