Guests board a trajinera, a flat-bottomed, brightly painted boat, for a slow one-hour ride along the area’s chinampa canals. These floating gardens date back to Aztec times when the valley was a lake, and the canals remain an ecological reserve and UNESCO World Heritage site. During the ride, the guide explains the history of the trajineras and chinampas. Visitors can try local foods and drinks sold by boat vendors, though purchases are at their own expense.
