Overview

This guided small-group bus tour lasts about nine hours and covers several key sites along Taiwan’s north and northeast coast. The tour begins with a visit to Yehliu Geopark in Wanli District, New Taipei City, where participants will see distinctive rock formations shaped by wind and sea, including the famous Queen’s Head mushroom rock and other notable features such as the Sea Candles and Fairy Shoe. Time at Yehliu totals roughly 70 minutes, including separate stops at the main park and the Queen’s Head area. Next, the tour proceeds to Jiufen Village in Ruifang District. The village, historically prosperous in the 1940s due to gold mining, retains an old-town atmosphere with narrow alleys and teahouses. Visitors have about two hours to explore Jiufen Old Street, sample local foods including the traditional taro ball dessert, and optionally enjoy tea while viewing the hillside scenery. Jiufen is also known as the filming location for the movie “A City of Sadness.” The tour then stops in Pingxi District to visit Shifen Waterfall, known as Taiwan’s “Little Niagara Falls.” Visitors spend about 40 minutes in total here, including time at the waterfall and its viewing platforms, where on clear days a rainbow may appear in the mist of the 20-meter cascade. Afterwards, the group continues to Shifen Old Street and Shifen Station, where they will have about 90 minutes to explore shops, eateries, and participate in the traditional sky lantern launching, sharing one lantern among three or four people. The guide provides instructions on the correct way to release the lantern. The tour includes local general liabilities insurance, a professional licensed tour guide, entrance to Yehliu Geopark, the sky lantern experience, and air-conditioned transport. Hotel pickup and drop-off are available if the private option is selected. Meals, bottled water, and gratuities are not included. On the return trip, participants may choose to be dropped off at Taipei 101 instead of the original meeting point. Walking is required at several stops, so comfortable shoes are advised.
