Overview

Japan's first yokai museum opens in Miyoshi, Hiroshima In addition to the 'Ino Mononoke Roku' Yokai Story, a yokai folktale set in Miyoshi, the exhibit features yokai-related materials carefully selected from approximately 5,500 items, including picture scrolls, colored woodblock prints, pottery and toys. These items were donated by Mr. Yumoto Koichi, a folklorist and yokai researcher, and are highly regarded as one of Japan's largest collections of yokai-related artifacts. Speical Exhibition "Yokai Ukiyo-e Artists" A large collection of masterpiece yokai (supernatural creatures) ukiyo-e prints by renowned artists of the era, including Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, and Tsukioka Yoshitoshi. Explore the Edo-period yokai boom through the vibrant works of these celebrated ukiyo-e masters. [Exhibition Period] June 27-November 18, 2025 New Year Exhibition "Mysterious and Fun Life with Yokai ー2026 Year of the Horse versionー" From the past to the present, various tools and items in our daily lives are inspired by yōkai—decorative pieces, crafts, and everyday goods. Whether it’s eating from a mermaid-themed plate or dressing up in a kimono adorned with Hyakki Yagyō designs, the lives of these intriguing yōkai are full of curiosity! This exhibition showcases yōkai-inspired objects from the Edo period to the present day. In addition, in celebration of 2026’s zodiac sign, the Horse, there will be a special display featuring ema (votive plaques). Why not spend some time experiencing a “yōkai life” with the mysterious creatures living in these everyday objects? 【Exhibition period】November 20, 2025 – March 10, 2026 (Note) This special exhibition will be held from November 20, 2025, to March 10, 2026. From March 12, 2026 onward, the exhibition contents will be changed.
