Ateshgah (Fire Temple)

Very interesting. The Temple of Fire (Ateshgah) is one of those places you don't just visit... feel. From the moment you enter, there is a special atmosphere, almost hypnotic, difficult to explain but impossible to ignore.

The Ateshgah of Baku, has a Hindu cremation altar next to the temple site, where Hindu cremation rituals were performed. Russian Tsar Alexander-III visited the temple, which was then known as the Indian Temple, in 1887 to witness Hindu rituals. "Ātash" (آتش/Atəş) is the Persian and Azerbaijani word for fire.

Yanar Dagh (Azerbaijani: Yanar Dağ , lit. 'burning mountain') is a natural gas fire that burns perpetually on a hillside on the Absheron Peninsula near Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, a country known as "the Land of Fire".
