Tallinn Town Hall (Tallinna Raekoda)

Undoubtedly one of Tallinn's most famous and iconic buildings, not only because it is a perfect example of its striking medieval architecture, but also because its spire houses an authentic symbol of the city: Vana Toomas, the “old Thomas” who has watched over Tallinn and its inhabitants for centuries.

Which areas of the Old Town should tourists avoid at night? Most of Tallinn's Old Town is safe to walk at night, but the area around some of the busier bars and nightclubs, particularly on and around Suur-Karja and Väike-Karja streets, can get rowdy late in the evening.

Tallinn Town Hall is the oldest city hall in North-Europe. In 2022, Tallinn Town Hall celebrated the 700th anniversary of its first mention in 1322. The story of the building dates back to the 13th century and it was completed, in its current form, in 1404.

Tallinn's old town is full of picturesque and colourful streets with typical shops and pretty pastry shops. These streets are Mündi Street, St. Catherine's Passage, Saiakang, Pikk Street and Rataskaevu Street. The latter is our favourite because above the roofs of the houses stands the town hall in the background.
