Is Villa Jovis worth visiting?
Our guide was so knowledgeable not only in the history of the Villa Jovis, but we also learned about all of the botanicals as we wound our way on the path up to the ruins. You do need a fair amount of stamina - there are some steep parts on the way up but it is well worth it! I would highly recommend this tour!
What happened at Villa Jovis?
The Villa Jovis is also, at least according to Suetonius, the place where Tiberius engaged in wild debauchery. Most modern historians regard these tales as sensationalized, but Suetonius's stories at least paint a picture of how Tiberius was perceived by the Roman people at the time.
How do I get to Villa Jovis Capri?
From Piazzetta di Capri, walk along Via Longano and then Via Tiberio, about 2 km uphill. The walk takes around 35–40 minutes and is clearly marked. Visiting Villa Jovis takes about 1 hour, though many travelers stay longer to enjoy the view over the Bay of Naples.
