Overview

The tour starts with a meeting point outside the Electric Town Gate at JR Akihabara station. Over about three hours, participants walk through Tokyo's Akihabara district with a certified guide from MagicalTrip. The guide explains how Akihabara evolved from an electronics hub to a center for anime and gaming culture. The group visits Akihabara Radio Kaikan, a mall full of anime figures, games, and retro otaku items. Next, the tour stops at Super Potato, a retro video game store where guests can hear 8-bit game music and browse vintage consoles and games. Afterward, the group enters maidreamin, a maid cafe where the entrance fee, a special magic drink, and a group photo are included. The guide provides background on maid cafes and the origins of "moe" culture. The tour continues to Akihabara Gachapon Hall, which hosts 430 capsule toy machines and about 50 new titles monthly. Finally, the guide shows participants more of Akihabara's subculture, including anime goods and idols. Alcoholic drinks and entrance fees are included, along with the chance to play retro arcade games. Additional drinks, food, maid performances, and Polaroid photos with maids are available for purchase. The maid cafe visited may vary. Some locations are not wheelchair or stroller accessible, and guests are advised to bring water and hats during Japan’s hot, humid summer.
