Overview

This 90-minute sumo show and experience takes place in a traditional-style venue in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Two professional sumo wrestlers perform live matches and demonstrations that display the sport’s rituals and techniques. A bilingual host provides commentary in English and Japanese, explaining the meaning of actions such as salt throwing, ring stomping, and pre-match ceremonies. After watching the matches, guests have the option to participate in a friendly sumo challenge by stepping into the sumo ring. Participation is limited and selected by lottery if there are too many applicants. Visitors can also take photos with the wrestlers, ask questions, and observe their size and strength up close. A welcome drink of bottled water is included. The event combines a live sumo show with explanations about the history and background of sumo wrestling in Japan.

Sumo show and experience venue in Shinjuku

The venue offers a traditional setting where two sumo wrestlers perform live matches and demonstrations. A bilingual host explains sumo’s sacred rituals such as salt throwing, ring stomping, and pre-match ceremonies. After the show, guests can enter the dohyō (sumo ring) to try a friendly challenge, with participant selection by lottery if necessary. Visitors can also take photos with the wrestlers and ask questions to better understand the sport’s physical and cultural aspects.
