Overview

This 90-minute small group canal cruise shows Amsterdam from the water on a modern, electric open boat with cushioned seats. A guide narrates in English as the boat moves through the city’s main and lesser-known canals, passing landmarks and quiet neighborhoods. The tour holds up to 12 guests, creating a personal atmosphere. Life vests are available on request, and blankets are provided. If it rains, a canopy covers the boat. Drinks can be purchased onboard, and guests may bring their own snacks and beverages. The route includes the Amstel River where guests will see the dancing houses and leaning buildings. The cruise continues past the Munt Tower, through a small canal bordering the red light district, and alongside the Zuiderkerk and a famous dancing house. The boat passes down Oudezijds Voorburgwal in the red light district, highlighting the Oude Kerk, one of Amsterdam’s oldest churches. It moves through the Kolksluis, a medieval lock still in use, and along the Geldersekade canal, which connects the Nieuwmarkt to the Prins Hendrikkade and borders Chinatown. The tour includes views of the 15th-century Waag building on Nieuwmarkt square, the medieval Montelbaanstoren tower, The National Maritime Museum with the 18th-century V.O.C. ship The Amsterdam, the modern NEMO Science Museum, and the quiet Wertheimpark. The boat then cruises past the peaceful Hortus Botanicus botanical gardens along the Nieuwe Herengracht, crosses part of the Herengracht canal known for its expensive canal houses, and goes through Reguliersgracht, famous for its seven bridges. The final stretch is down the Prinsengracht canal, passing various houseboats and canal houses, before returning to the Amstel river and passing under the Magere Brug, the wooden Skinny Bridge.
