Overview

This private small tour lasts about eight to nine hours and includes hotel pickup and drop-off in Siem Reap by an air-conditioned car or van. A Khmer guide accompanies the group throughout the day and provides bottled water. The tour begins with an early pickup at 4:30 AM from hotels in Siem Reap. If guests do not yet have an Angkor Pass, the group stops at the ticket office before entering the temple complex. The first visit is to Angkor Wat to watch the sunrise. Guests spend about one hour exploring the temple, walking through corridors and terraces while the guide explains its architecture and the history of the Angkor Empire. Next, the tour visits Banteay Kdei, known as the citadel of monk’s cells, where guests see silk cotton tree roots growing through the ancient stone walls. The group then spends about one hour at Ta Prohm, a temple partly reclaimed by jungle and known for its appearance in the film Tomb Raider. After this, the tour continues to Ta Keo, an unfinished temple with a square, layered-pyramid design. Guests can climb the terraces here to see views over the surrounding jungle. The final stop is Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Angkor Empire. The route passes through the South Gate, decorated with carved figures of gods and demons in a tug-of-war motif, then proceeds to the Bayon temple at the center. Bayon features 54 towers and over 200 carved smiling faces, which the guide describes before returning guests to their hotels. Food and drinks other than bottled water are not included. The itinerary can be adjusted based on guest preferences, including the start time.
