The Arenal Hanging Bridges Hiking Tour in La Fortuna takes about four hours and follows a 3.1-kilometer (2-mile) trail through the Hanging Bridges Forest Reserve, a protected tropical rainforest covering 243 hectares (600 acres) near Arenal. The trail crosses 15 bridges, some hanging over the forest canopy and others fixed in place, each varying in length and height to provide different views of the forest layers. Walking these bridges allows visitors to observe wildlife such as three species of monkeys, various birds, snakes, peccaries, and frogs. The terrain is mostly gentle with some short slopes, making the hike suitable for all ages and fitness levels. The tour includes hotel pickup and drop-off in an air-conditioned minivan with Wi-Fi. A professional guide leads the group, and bottled water and snacks are provided. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and the tour is not recommended for children aged four and under. Gratuities are not included.
