Overview

This small-group day trip from Lisbon lasts about eight hours and includes visits to natural parks, markets, and wineries with wine tastings. The tour departs Lisbon and crosses the Vasco da Gama Bridge, the longest bridge in Europe at nearly 11 miles (17 km). The first stop is Mercado do Livramento in Setúbal, where guests have around 30 minutes to explore one of the region’s most vibrant markets, featuring local fish, fruits, vegetables, bakery items, and cheese. On Mondays, the tour includes a 45-minute visit to Castelo de Palmela, where visitors can walk on the castle walls and climb the tower for a photo opportunity. Next, the group visits Casa Museu Jose Maria da Fonseca, one of Portugal’s oldest wineries, for a guided tour and a tasting of two local wines. The tour then continues to Arrabida Natural Park, where the group climbs to the park’s highest peak at 1,640 feet (500 meters) to view the Atlantic Ocean and surrounding landscape. Lunch is at the fishing town of Sesimbra, with 90 minutes to enjoy local seafood (own expense) and time for strolling near the beach or through the town. After lunch, the tour visits Quinta do Alcube, a family-owned wine farm in Arrabida Natural Park, for a wine tasting session. The final stop is the Cristo Rei Sanctuary, opened in 1959 and modeled after Brazil’s Christ the Redeemer statue, which offers views of Lisbon before the return to the city. Travel is by air-conditioned minivan, accompanied by a local guide who shares information about the region and its wines.
