Overview

This walking tour in Belgrade lasts about two and a half hours and focuses on the underground parts of the Belgrade Fortress. It begins with a visit to the Roman well inside the fortress, built in the 18th century during Austrian rule. This site has several legends attached to it and was a favorite place of Alfred Hitchcock while in Belgrade. The tour then moves to a Cold War-era army bunker, where the guide explains the political strategies of President Tito during that period. Next, participants explore the Gunpowder warehouse, a cave built by the Austrians as part of the fortress’s defense against the Turkish Empire. This area also serves as an exhibition space displaying sarcophaguses and altars from archaeological sites across Serbia. The tour concludes with a glass of local sparkling wine on the banks of the Sava river. Entrance fees, a professional guide, and alcoholic beverages are included. Transportation to and from the attractions and gratuities are not included.
