Overview
The Bentota River Safari by BTM offers a two-hour boat trip along the Bentota River and its mangrove forests. The tour is organized by Bentota Travel Mart (BTM) and includes hotel pickup and drop-off from several nearby towns: Bentota, Induruwa, Kosgoda, Ahungalla, Balapitiya, Ambalangoda, Aluthgama, Beruwala, Maggona, Kalutara, Waskaduwa, and Wadduwa. Guests can select a departure time between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM to suit their schedule. The boat follows the course of the Bentota River, the third largest river in Sri Lanka, which flows into the Indian Ocean and forms a lagoon known for a variety of water sports and diverse wildlife. During the safari, passengers encounter mangrove ecosystems and observe wildlife including water monitors, several species of river birds such as kingfishers, bee-eaters, egrets, eagles, and cormorants, as well as fruit bats, monkeys, and occasionally crocodiles. A local guide provides commentary throughout the trip, sharing information about the animals and natural environment. Bottled water is provided on board. The all-inclusive package covers hotel transportation, entrance fees, activity charges, local taxes, GST, and the Environmental Management Charge. Gratuities are not included. The tour requires a minimum booking of two people.
