Overview

The Breede River Valley is well known for its vineyards and mountain scenery. This guided day trip combines a visit to the valley with an afternoon Big Five safari. The tour starts with a hotel pickup in Cape Town at 8:30 AM in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. The group travels along the N1 highway, passing the Language Monument near Paarl. Next, the route ascends the Du Toitskloof Pass, where the tour pauses to view the surrounding landscape, including Table Mountain in the distance. The journey continues through the Breede River and Hex River valleys. There is a stop at Du Toitskloof Wines for a 40-minute wine tasting featuring wines from six local farms, including their award-winning Chenin Blanc. Alternatively, visitors may choose coffee and a pastry at the adjacent Ou Meul Bakery & Cafe, which also has a gift shop. In the afternoon, the tour reaches the Aquila private game reserve, covering 10,000 hectares. Park admission is not included and must be paid separately. Admission includes a complimentary glass of bubbly (alcohol-free option available), a buffet lunch, and a 2-3 hour game drive with a professional ranger in vehicles seating about 14 people. The drive offers the chance to see the Big Five - lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino - as well as other animals. Private game drives are available for an extra fee. On the return trip, there is a comfort stop at Du Kloof Lodge by the Molenaars River with views of the Witteberg Mountains. The tour concludes with drop-off at Cape Town hotels around 6:30 PM after traveling back via the Huguenot Tunnel. Included are hotel pickup and drop-off, a professional guide, and transport in an upmarket vehicle. Park fees, gratuities, and alcoholic drinks are not included.
