The tour begins with a safety briefing and kayaking instructions. Participants use tandem kayaks to paddle through the Red Mangrove Forest located inside Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve. As paddles move through the water, millions of microscopic plankton light up, creating blue glowing trails on the water’s surface. The tour occurs at night under a starry sky to observe the bioluminescent effect. Included are paddles, backrests, USCG-approved life jackets, eco-friendly insect repellent, light snacks, and refreshments. Participants must meet weight and age limits and wear clothes and shoes that can get wet. A towel and change of clothes are recommended for after the tour. Odd-numbered groups are assigned tandem kayaks accordingly. The tour requires a minimum of six participants to operate; if this number is not met, guests will be contacted with alternative options. Communication in English or Spanish is required for safety. The tour is not recommended for individuals with certain health conditions, recent injuries, or pregnancy.
