Overview

This full-day bus tour lasts about 7 hours, starting with hotel pickup in Montego Bay. The trip heads through Jamaica’s countryside, passing notable plantation homes such as Rose Hall Great House and Greenwood Great House. Although no stops are made at these estates, the guide will slow down for photo opportunities and share historical information. There will be a brief stop at Columbus Park in Discovery Bay, where you can stretch your legs and view relics related to Christopher Columbus’ 1494 landing. Afterward, the journey continues to Nine Miles, the small village where Bob Marley was born and is buried. You will spend around two hours here touring with a Rastafarian guide who explains Bob Marley’s life, music, and connection to the area. At Nine Miles, visit Bob Marley’s childhood home, see the bed and rock he used for resting, the mausoleum where he is laid to rest, and Mount Zion, the natural spot linked to his songwriting. You will also enter the nearby Ethiopian church where his body is interred, remembering to remove your shoes before entering. The tour includes entrance fees, local taxes, transportation in an air-conditioned minivan or bus, and a professional driver-guide throughout. Food, drinks, gratuities, and souvenir photos are not included.

Itinerary

1

Rose Hall Great House

Pass by the Rose Hall Great House, an early 18th-century plantation home located on high ground in Rose Hall, Montego Bay. Known for its dark history involving Annie Palmer, a former owner who died in 1831, the house is reputed to be haunted. The guide will slow down to provide historical details and allow photo opportunities, but there is no stop here.

2

Greenwood Great House

Drive past the Greenwood Great House, another early 18th-century plantation home situated at a high elevation. Unlike Rose Hall, this house has a peaceful atmosphere and is admired for its architecture and history. The vehicle will slow for photos, but visitors do not stop.

3

Columbus Park

Stop for about 15 minutes at Columbus Park in Discovery Bay, the site where Christopher Columbus and his men landed in 1494. The area was originally called Puerto Seco or ‘Dry Harbour’ because they could not find fresh water. Fresh water was found about 5 miles west, at a place named Rio Bueno. In 1947, the town was renamed Discovery Bay to mark the Spanish landing on May 4, 1494. The park displays several old relics and artifacts. Guests can take photos during this brief stop.

4

Nine Miles

Spend about two hours in Nine Miles, a small village in St. Ann where Bob Marley was born on February 6, 1945, and is buried. Marley moved to Kingston at age 13 but often returned to Nine Miles to escape city life. A Rastafarian guide will lead the tour of Marley’s childhood home, showing his bed, the rock he used as a pillow, and Mount Zion, which inspired his songwriting. Visit the nearby Ethiopian church where his body rests with his guitar; shoes must be removed before entering. The village remains much as it was during Marley’s youth. The drive from Montego Bay to Nine Miles takes about two and a half hours.
