Overview

The Ocean Free sailing tour departs from Cairns and lasts about nine hours. It carries up to 25 guests on a 16-meter two-mast schooner. The vessel sails to an exclusive Great Barrier Reef mooring site located approximately one kilometer off Green Island within a protected Marine Park zone. Guests can snorkel directly from the boat over coral bommies rising from 10 to 12 meters depth to just below the water surface. Marine life such as turtles and schools of fish are commonly seen in this area. A marine interpreter provides a reef talk during the morning sail. Snorkeling and optional scuba diving to depths of 10 to 12 meters are available at the reef site, with crew assistance and snorkeling equipment included. Certified and introductory dives are offered but require completion of a medical questionnaire and meeting health requirements. After the morning activities, a buffet lunch is served on board. Following lunch, guests transfer by tender from the schooner to Green Island. They may spend about one hour on the island exploring the rainforest, relaxing on the white sandy beaches, or visiting Marineland Melanesia, which requires a small entry fee. The boat remains moored at the reef, allowing guests to split their time between snorkeling or diving and visiting the island. Afternoon tea, fish feeding, tea, and coffee are included. On the return sail to Cairns, guests receive a complimentary glass of wine. Hotel transfers are not included. The tour operates in most weather conditions except severe weather or gale warnings. Guests should be able to move safely around the vessel and transfer between the boat and tender.
