Overview

Cañada de la Virgen is an archaeological site about 25 kilometers west of San Miguel de Allende. It was inhabited between 540 and 1050 A.D. and sits on a small mesa surrounded by canyons. The site covers 16 hectares and includes four patio-pyramid complexes, an ancient artificial pond, and a ceremonial causeway. This cultural tour lasts about six hours and is conducted by a bilingual professional guide from Coyote Canyon Adventures. Transportation is provided in an air-conditioned minivan from San Miguel de Allende. On arrival, visitors walk approximately 3 kilometers over two hours to see the entire site with detailed explanations of the Otomi people and other cultures of the Bajio region and Mesoamerica. Lunch is included during the tour. Small camera bags, cameras, and water are allowed on site, but no backpacks or larger bags. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes and bring sun protection. The tour requires a minimum of three people and is suitable for children aged three and older.
