Overview

This eight-hour tour departs from San Ignacio with round-trip transportation included. The trip begins with a one-and-a-half-hour drive on rough dirt roads through Maya villages and countryside to the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve. The first stop is Rio Frio Cave, where visitors spend about 30 minutes exploring the cave known for its large entrance and its history as an ancient Maya burial site. Next, the tour continues to the Caracol Maya Ruins for approximately three hours. At Caracol, visitors see pyramid temples, plazas, monuments, stelas, and altars.
