Overview

The tour starts with transport by a traditional Thai songthaew, a converted pick-up truck with benches and open sides, from the hotel to the trailhead of the Monk’s Trail on Doi Suthep. The hike along the Monk’s Trail takes about 45 minutes and follows a historic forest path once used by Buddhist monks traveling between temples and the city. The trail is uneven and may be steep or slippery in places, so it is not suitable for guests with mobility issues. After the hike, participants spend about one hour exploring Wat Pha Lat, a quiet temple complex built in 1355 and located in a forested area. The temple grounds include old stone buildings, moss-covered stairs, Buddha statues, small shrines, and a stream with stone bridges. Entrance to Wat Pha Lat is not included and must be paid on the day. Next, the group travels to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, a major Buddhist temple situated 1053 meters above sea level. Visitors can climb the dragon staircase with over 300 steps or choose to take the cable car for an additional fee. The temple grounds feature pagodas, statues, shrines, bells, and murals depicting the life of Buddha. The original copper-covered chedi is the temple’s most important feature. From the temple, there is a panoramic view over Chiang Mai and the Ping valley, best seen in clear weather. After visiting Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, the tour ends with transport back to the hotel. The total duration of the tour is about four hours and includes bottled water, an English-speaking guide, and transport by songthaew. The maximum group size is 12 participants.
