Overview

Travel by coach from Florence toward the Cinque Terre region, settling into your seat for a journey through Tuscany and Liguria. The trip lasts about 13 hours and includes transport, a guide speaking only English, and chances to explore multiple villages and landmarks. After a drive with commentary about Lucca, Puccini, and the Carrara marble quarries, you arrive in La Spezia. Here the guide directs you to board a train to reach Manarola, one of the Cinque Terre’s five fishing villages known for its colorful houses and seaside views. You can walk around this village and, if you choose, join an optional hike above Manarola through terraced vineyards for panoramic views of the coastline. Next is Corniglia, situated on a rocky promontory above the sea. You have time to stroll its quiet streets and viewpoints, and pause for lunch at a local restaurant or café. If you selected the Pisa option, your visit will include Vernazza, Monterosso, and Riomaggiore instead. After lunch, those who opt for the hiking tour will follow a roughly two-mile trail connecting the hilltop villages, ending in Vernazza where there is free time to relax in cafés or swim in the sea. Those not hiking will take the train between villages. From Vernazza, the group takes a short train ride to Monterosso, where you can visit the beach, browse artisan shops, or try local wine. Weather permitting between late March and October, you may take a boat ride along the coast to Riomaggiore, the southernmost Cinque Terre village, recognized for its houses stacked on steep hillsides. If the boat is unavailable, the train is used. If you chose the Pisa option, the tour continues to Pisa to visit Piazza dei Miracoli, where you will see the Leaning Tower, Cathedral, and Baptistery. You will have time to walk the grounds and take photos before the return trip. The day ends with a coach ride back to Florence, passing through Tuscan and Ligurian landscapes. This trip includes transport between Florence and Cinque Terre, a guide, time to explore on foot, and entry to the Cinque Terre National Park except for the transport-only option. The boat trip and Pisa visit are optional extras.
