Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque

Located in the Pettah district, this mosque is known for its distinctive red and white swirl pattern. Designed in 1908 by Habibu Lebbe Saibu Lebbe, an Indian Muslim trader, it has become a popular landmark. The tour drives past this mosque with an optional short stop to take photos.

4

Colombo Fort

Originally built by the Portuguese in the 15th century and later expanded by the Dutch, Colombo Fort served as a fortified trading post. The British later demolished the walls and developed the area as the capital. The tour passes through streets featuring colonial buildings like the Galle Face Hotel, Presidential Secretariat, Grand Oriental Hotel, Cargills department store, General Post Office, Fort Police Station, and the old lighthouse, with commentary on their history.

5

Gangaramaya Temple

This Buddhist temple, over 120 years old, is one of Colombo's most visited. It contains a museum with artifacts from Sri Lanka and other Buddhist cultures including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Thai. Nearby is Seema Malaka, an assembly hall for monks designed by Geoffrey Bawa, situated on a lake. The chauffeur will provide information during a 20-minute visit.

Viharamahadevi Park

Formerly Victoria Park, this is Colombo’s oldest and largest public park, located in Cinnamon Gardens opposite the Town Hall. Built by the British colonial rulers, it features tropical trees, fountains, and a statue of Lord Buddha. The tour stops here to allow time for photos.

7

Independence Memorial Hall

Located in Independence Square in Colombo 7, this hall commemorates Sri Lanka’s independence from Britain in the 1940s. Built on the site of the 1948 independence ceremony, it is modeled on the Magul Maduwa, the meeting hall of Sri Lanka’s last king in Kandy. The columns and pillars have traditional carvings and paintings. The tour pauses here for about 20 minutes to explain its historical significance.
