Overview

The Durango 1/4 Day Rafting Trip on the Lower Animas River lasts about two and a half hours. Participants meet at the Mild to Wild Rafting and Jeep Tours office in Durango, where they receive a life jacket, helmet, and optional splash jacket or wetsuit if needed. After a safety orientation and paddling instructions from an experienced guide, the group is shuttled to the river. The rafting portion lasts approximately one hour and covers the Lower Animas River. Rafters navigate several Class II rapids that splash mainly those at the front of the raft, and one Class III rapid at Smelter Whitewater Park that usually soaks everyone in the boat. The guide provides information about the area during the trip. After rafting, participants load the boats and return by shuttle to the starting point. The trip includes all river and land access fees, well-maintained equipment, and free parking. The minimum age for this trip is 4 years. Wet-suit and boot rentals are recommended through June. Gratuities are not included.
