Overview

El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico is the only tropical rainforest in the US National Forest System, known for its rivers, waterfalls, and diverse plants. This full-day guided tour lasts about eight hours and includes round-trip transport from selected San Juan locations such as Old San Juan, Condado, and Isla Verde. The tour begins with a hike lasting around 30 minutes on a path that involves river wading and rock climbing. The route passes through bamboo groves and areas with rainforest flowers and other native plants. The guide provides live narration in English, explaining the ecosystem and pointing out local flora and fauna. Participants will stop at a natural collecting pool beneath a small waterfall where swimming is possible in clear water pools. The hike continues with more difficult rock climbing to a natural river area featuring water slides, a rope swing, and opportunities for cliff jumping. After approximately three and a half hours in the forest, the group travels to Balneario Luquillo for a break. There is time to visit the Luquillo Kiosks or a nearby restaurant to have an authentic Puerto Rican lunch, which is not included in the price. The tour concludes with transportation back to San Juan. Included in the tour are lifejackets, first aid equipment, bottled water, light snacks, and a certified guide. The activity level is moderate to strenuous and involves uneven and rocky terrain, so appropriate footwear and clothing are recommended. Use of lifejackets and helmets is mandatory, with fees applied for lost equipment. The tour operates only in suitable weather and river conditions and is not available for pregnant individuals or those with certain medical conditions. Children must be at least seven years old. The exact pickup time will be confirmed the day before the tour starts.
