Overview

This private day trip lasts about 8 to 9 hours and includes essential highlights of Athens combined with a coastal drive to Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon. The tour begins with pickup from the hotel, Airbnb, or cruise ship in Athens by a professional driver. The first stop is the Acropolis, where visitors see the Parthenon, the Propylaia gateway, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion with its Caryatids, the Theatre of Dionysus, and the Roman theater Herodius Atticus. The group then proceeds to the Acropolis Museum, located nearby, which displays many artifacts from the site; entering the museum is optional. Next, the tour visits the Temple of Zeus, a large ancient temple built in the 6th century BC, followed by a view of Hadrian's Arch close to the same area. The Panathenaic Stadium, also called Kallimarmaro, is the next stop; it is the marble stadium where the original Marathon ends. Afterward, the tour continues to Syntagma Square to see the Hellenic Parliament building and the Changing of the Guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The group also visits Monastiraki Square, a central area in Athens' Old Town. An optional traditional three-course Greek lunch is available, usually served by the sea in Sounion during summer months or in Athens at other times; alcoholic drinks are not included. After lunch or the city stops, the tour follows the coastal road along the Athens Riviera, passing scenic seaside suburbs with views of the Aegean Sea and rugged coastline. The final destination is the Temple of Poseidon, located 70 meters above sea level on a clifftop at the tip of the Athens Peninsula. This temple was a landmark for ancient sailors and is especially notable at sunset. The tour concludes with a return transfer to the original pickup location in Athens.
