The group then visits the front of the 1991-1993 lava flow near Zafferana Etnea, spending about 30 minutes observing the lava field. Next, there is a 30-minute stop at Oro d’Etna, a local farm where participants taste regional products including honey, olive oils, pesto, wines, and liqueurs. The tour continues to Valle del Bove for a 30-minute break at a viewpoint overlooking this large volcanic depression. Afterward, there is a two-hour exploration of a lava cave formed by previous eruptions; helmets and flashlights are provided for safety. The final activity is a one-hour easy trek around the Silvestri Craters, old volcanic craters from the 1892 eruption located at approximately 2,000 meters (6,561 feet) altitude. This trek is timed to coincide with sunset. The total duration of the tour is about five to six hours. The vehicle used for transfers is air-conditioned, and guides speak English, French, Italian, and Spanish. During winter months (November to April), the tour departs at 12:00 noon.
