Overview

This 90-minute guided evening tour takes place on the Otago Peninsula near Dunedin, New Zealand, and focuses on viewing blue penguins as they return from the sea. Visitors walk approximately 300 meters along a gravel path and boardwalk that includes over 60 steps. The number of penguins seen varies by season, with up to 200 penguins visible during spring and summer, and typically between 20 and 50 from March to August. On rare occasions, fewer than 10 penguins may appear. The tour provides very close views of the penguins and is the only evening blue penguin tour that allows photography without flash. Along with the penguins, other wildlife such as seals, sea lions, and albatrosses are often observed. The guide shares information about the Māori history connected to the site and offers a behind-the-scenes look at the penguin reserve and habitat. All fees and taxes are included, but transportation to the reserve is not provided; guests must arrange their own transport. Umbrellas are not allowed on the walk, so a rain jacket is recommended if the weather is wet.
