Overview

Delve into the birthplace of Japanese mythology—Takachiho—with a one-day visit to its gorges, shrines, and hidden caves. Depart from Fukuoka by private car to Kyushu's most spiritual natural attractions. The basalt cliffs and clear streams of Takachiho Gorge are stunning, allowing you to admire the "Manai Falls" up close. Afterward, head to "Amanoyasu-kawara," hidden deep within the forest, a sacred place where gods are said to have convened, with stacked stones for prayers full of spiritual energy. The trip also includes a stop at Takachiho Amaterasu Railway Station, where you can choose to purchase additional mini-train tickets or photograph the classic railway scenery from the observation deck. If mini-train tickets are unavailable, the itinerary will change to visiting the historic Takachiho Shrine to learn more about the Japanese myth of the descent of the heavenly grandchild.
